Assessment of Fundamental Clinical Sciences

Examination Description

COMLEX-USA Level 2-Cognitive Evaluation (CE) is a problem- and symptom-based assessment, administered in a time-measured environment that integrates the fundamental clinical science disciplines (see listing below) and other areas of medical knowledge relevant to solving clinical problems and promoting and maintaining health in providing osteopathic medical care to patients, principally in the supervised (graduate medical education) setting.

The examination consists of two computer-based test sessions of four hours each taken on one day and contains a total of approximately 400 test questions (items) related to diverse clinical presentations. Test questions are predominantly in the single best answer, multiple choice or extended matching item formats, with some novel test items involving audio-visual components designed to assess an expanded physician competency subset. Examples of test item types expected to be encountered in Level 2-CE can be found under Practice Exams, and the practice examination begins with a tutorial.

WHAT PASSING LEVEL 2-CE MEANS

Passing Level 2-CE indicates that the candidate has demonstrated competence in fundamental clinical science disciplines required to solve clinical problems and manage patient presentations in a supervised clinical practice setting, to enter into graduate medical education, and to prepare for lifelong learning.
