The COMLEX-USA Blueprint emphasizes the competencies required for generalist osteopathic physicians to deliver safe and effective patient care. It is designed to assure state licensing boards and the public that a DO has demonstrated minimal competence through a series of national standardized examinations. Aligned with the osteopathic medical education and training pathway, passing Levels 1 and 2-CE is required for graduation with a DO degree and entry into residency training.
Since its implementation, the COMLEX-USA Blueprint has been reviewed and revised regularly to reflect the distinctive practice of osteopathic medicine, consistent with the recommendations of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (2014) established by the American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association, and the National Council on Measurement in Education. The COMLEX-USA Blueprint continues to evolve to reflect contemporary osteopathic medical practice and advancements in competency-based assessment.
There are two versions of the NBOME Blueprint now available; please review the version that best fits your testing scenario.
