Scoring & Reporting

This content is for candidates who took the COMLEX-USA Level 1 before May 2019. Click here to view the current documentation.

The NBOME COMLEX-USA series is the primary pathway to licensure for osteopathic physicians seeking to practice osteopathic medicine. The primary purpose of COMLEX-USA is for osteopathic physician licensure. Passing the series of examinations indicates that the candidate’s osteopathic medical knowledge and clinical skills have met an acceptable standard for unsupervised osteopathic medical practice. The COMLEX-USA series is accepted for physician licensure in all 50 states and some international jurisdictions.

Essential objectives of the examination series include the graduation, advancement, and promotion of osteopathic medical students. COMLEX-USA also serves as an assessment tool used by residency program directors to evaluate DO applicants for graduate medical education programs. The NBOME follows standards and best practices in assessment when evaluating our passing standards to ensure COMLEX-USA meets and maintains high assessment quality.
