NBOME Announces New National Faculty Chairs

The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), an independent, nonprofit organization that provides competency assessments for osteopathic medical licensure and related health care professions, is proud to announce the following appointments to its National Faculty Chair positions effective January 2024:

 
 

COMVEX Examination Chair

Regina Lewis, DO

Lewis has been an active member of the National Faculty since 2010. Her range of contributions spans from various levels of engagement such as participating in COMLEX-USA Level 3 Item Writing and acting as COMLEX-USA Level 3 Advisory Committee vice-chair.

 
 
 
 

Clinical Decision-Making (CDM) & Key Features Chair

Alesia Wagner, DO

Wagner has been a National Faculty member since 2015. Her range of in CDM spans the spectrum as a CDM Item writer, CDM primary rater, CDM Rating Master and CDM QA reviewer over the past several years. She was the recipient of the CDM Case Writer of the Year award in 2020 and 2023.

 
 
 
 

COMAT Examination Chair – Obstetrics & Gynecology

Meaghan Nelsen, DO, MS

Nelsen has participated in several engagements since joining the National Faculty in 2021. She has supported the Reproductive Health Task Force and participated in Level 3 Pretest Exam Content Review – Virtual, Level 2-CE Pretest Exam Content Review and Revision Projects, and various activities in support of the COMAT exam.

 
 
 
 

COMAT Examination Chair – Internal Medicine

Rodney Bates, DO

Bates joined the National Faculty in 2019, and has participated in numerous item writing workshops and exam content reviews for COMAT and COMLEX Level 2-CE and Level 3.

 
 
 
 

COMAT Chair- Psychiatry

Jacqueline Locrotondo, DO

Locrotondo has participated in Rationale, New Item, Exam, and Item Writing workshops for COMSAE, COMAT Clinical, and COMLEX-USA Level 1. She previously served on the COMAT Psychiatry subcommittee. She joined the National Faculty in 2017.

 
 
 
 
 

Competency Chair – Systems-Based Practice

Janet Lieto, DO

Lieto joined the National Faculty in 2017. She has written numerous items for COMLEX-USA and served on the National Curriculum Committee. Most recently she was a standard setting panelist.

 
 
 
 
 

Department Chair – Emergency Medicine

Darren Cohen, DO

Cohen has served as a member of the COMAT Emergency Medicine Committee and Clinical Decision Making Subcommittee, and participated in many COMAT item writing workshops as well as case writing workshops, new Case Reviews for Clinical Decision Making, and was an exam content reviewer for COMLEX-USA Level 3. He joined the National Faculty in 2017.

 
 
 
 

Department Chair – Family Medicine

Robert Agnello, DO

Agnello served the National Faculty most recently as interim department chair of family medicine. He has also served as a new item reviewer for COMAT FBS and COMAT Clinical exam content, a Physician Examiner OMT rater, and on the COMLEX-USA Level 1 Advisory Committee and COMAT Family Medicine subcommittee. He joined the National Faculty in 2014.

 
 
 
 

Department Chair – Surgery

Janie Myers, DO

Myers, who was elected to the NBOME Board of Directors in 2023, has served on the National Faculty since 2015. She served on the COMAT Surgery Subcommittee and was a content reviewer for COMAT Clinical exams and COMLEX-USA Level 3.

 
 
 
 
 

Division Chair – Anatomy

Jonathan Leo, PhD

Leo most recently served as division chair, neurosciences and neurology, for the COMAT Comprehensive FBS exam. He joined the National Faculty in 2000 and has also served as an item writer for COMLEX-USA and COMAT-FBS, and as member of the Standard Setting and Exam Review committees.

 
 
 
 

Division Chair – Genetics

David Gardner, PhD

Gardner joined the National Faculty in 2000, and most recently served as an item reviewer for COMLEX-USA Level 1. He also served as the National Faculty Division Chair – Geriatrics from 2013-2016 and has participated in numerous item writing workshops for COMLEX-USA Level 1 and Level 3.

 
 
 

About the NBOME:
The NBOME is an independent, non-governmental, nonprofit assessment organization committed to protecting the public by providing the means to assess competencies for osteopathic medicine and related health care professions. NBOME’s COMLEX-USA examination series is a requirement for graduation from colleges of osteopathic medicine and provides the pathway to licensure for osteopathic physicians in the United States and numerous international jurisdictions.
