Regarding the NBOME Core Osteopathic Recognition Readiness Examination (CORRE)

1. What is CORRE?

CORRE stands for Core Osteopathic Recognition Readiness Examination. It is designed for non-DO physicians and medical students applying to residency programs who have applied for or have achieved osteopathic recognition through the ACGME. The results of CORRE will be used by program directors to measure a test taker’s basic introductory understanding of osteopathic concepts, philosophy, diagnosis, and treatment.

2. How do I register for CORRE?

After confirming the CORRE self-attestation, the NBOME will share a link that will bring you to the CORRE registration system where you will register and pay for the examination. Following this, you will schedule your examination through Prometric.

3. I am interested in taking CORRE and noticed I am required to attest. What am I attesting to?

An individual interested in taking CORRE needs to attest that they have completed or are scheduled to complete within twelve (12) months, all of the requirements for graduation with a medical degree from an accredited medical school in the United States or internationally, and has completed at least one (1) of the following: structured basic Osteopathic Principles and Practice training prior to beginning residency, completion of elective Osteopathic Principles and Practice rotations, or completion of Osteopathic Principles and Practice courses at an accredited osteopathic medical school.

The individual will also need to indicate that the course, if taken, was provided by at least one (1) of the following: a program provided or co-sponsored by the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO), a program provided or co-sponsored by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) and/or the Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME), a program provided or co-sponsored by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), a program provided or co-sponsored by an AOA Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) accredited college of osteopathic medicine or other program to be specified.

4. I took a course in Osteopathic Practice and Principles at a college of osteopathic medicine accredited by AOA COCA and want to take CORRE, am I eligible?

Yes, individuals who have taken a course in Osteopathic Practice and Principles at an accredited college of osteopathic medicine, and meet the eligibility requirements, can take CORRE.

5. Does my attestation expire?

No.

6. When will I know that I have been approved to take CORRE?

Immediately after an examinee attests that they meet the criteria listed in the self-attestation (see question 2).

7. I received my score report, now what?

The CORRE score report may be presented to program directors of programs with osteopathic recognition as a measure of basic introductory level understanding of osteopathic concepts and philosophy, diagnosis, and treatment methods. CORRE does not currently include a practical or performance component.

8. Can I take CORRE more than once to try to improve my score?

No.
