About COMAT FBS for Non-DOs
The NBOME offers COMAT Foundational Biomedical Sciences (FBS) examinations to health professions programs at schools and colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs). These include, but are not limited to, master’s and doctoral programs in biomedical sciences, podiatric medicine, physician assistant studies, dentistry, and optometry.
COMs that currently administer COMAT FBS examinations to their DO students and would also like to offer them to students in other health professions can manage purchases, scheduling, proctors, administrators, and other administrative functions through the Health Sciences Program Portal, accessible via the NBOME Portal.
COMAT FBS Comprehensive (FBS-C) and Targeted (FBS-T) examinations can be used to assess graduate and doctoral students’ knowledge of foundational biomedical science concepts as they apply to clinical situations and patient presentations. Performance on FBS examinations also shows strong correlations with COMLEX-USA Level 1 performance.
COMAT examinations report scaled scores via score equating, which allows health sciences programs to compare their students’ performance with reference groups of their choice.
