Phase 4 and Beyond

In 2026, the NBOME will collaborate with these COMs on the administration, scoring, and reporting of C3DO to evaluate further validity evidence for the assessment of these fundamental osteopathic clinical skills. These efforts are supported by the faculty, staff, and students at the partner COMs. Support is also provided by contributions from case writers, item writers, and advisory committee members from across the profession. These individuals represent over 50 colleges of osteopathic medicine locations and are essential to the C3DO assessment program.

Currently, COM deans provide verification that each graduate has demonstrated fundamental osteopathic clinical skills competency to satisfy the clinical skills requirement for COMLEX-USA Level 3 eligibility. This attestation process is in place through the Class of 2028, after which it will sunset.

We look forward to working with all our partner COMs, and several additional COMs with whom we have spoken and are in the process of applying, as we prepare for the use of the C3DO credential and the Comprehensive Competency Verification (CCV) as the new options for clinical skills verification for the classes of 2029 and beyond. Details on the requirements of the CCV will be announced by July 2026.
