Empowering Research and Innovation in Osteopathic Assessment
NBOME Research Grant Program

NBOME has earmarked $100,000 to support up to five research projects annually. Award amounts will be based on available funds and will be granted for a one-year term (consideration given to two-year projects with demonstration of requirements). There is no allowance for indirect costs.

NBOME Research Priorities
Research grant applications are sought for assessment-related research only, with priority given to projects in one of the following research focus areas:
- advancing osteopathically distinctive competency-based assessment, including clinical skills assessment, formative and summative assessments
- use of technology (including AI) to enhance assessment programs,
- strategies to use data to inform assessment practices
Eligibility
Applications will be accepted from faculty of colleges of osteopathic medicine, ACGME-accredited residency program faculty, or other researchers conducting assessment-related research. Students, residents, and fellows may be a part of a research team but must apply under a faculty primary investigator.
Application Dates and Deadlines
Phase 1: Preliminary Proposal Deadline is March 15, 2026
Applicants start by submitting a brief proposal describing their research idea and general budgetary requirements to NBOME for initial consideration. Link here for more information. Completed brief proposals should be emailed at the link below.
NBOME Evaluation of Phase 1 Submissions: March 16-31
The NBOME team reviews proposals for relevance and feasibility before inviting comprehensive submissions. NBOME will reach out to selected investigators in the first week of April, sending them the full application information.
Phase 2: Full Proposal: Due May 15, 2026
Applicants submit a detailed proposal, which will include comprehensive methodology and budget information, background, and goals.
