The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) is seeking a dynamic Psychometricians/Statisticians to perform psychometric operations including test design, form assignment, standard setting, item and test analysis, score equating, and psychometric research. The level of the position (Psychometrician or Senior Psychometrician) is contingent upon qualification.

 

LOCATION: CHICAGO (Hybrid work schedule)                                    DEPARTMENT: COLLABORATIVE ASSESSMENT

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct statistical work required for score reporting and data interpretation for assigned testing programs.
  • Assume primary responsibilities for designing, developing, and documenting technical and operating procedures and statistical guidelines for assigned programs.
  • Prepare and develop technical reports for testing programs.
  • Proactively work toward more efficient processes, automation, reduced costs, greater customer satisfaction, and quality maintenance. Suggest process, product, and service improvements, areas for cost reduction, and ways to meet business goals.
  • Independently identify program, research and measurement-related problems and opportunities and their psychometric implications. 
  • Propose, design, execute, and report on research projects.
  • Present results from analyses to address psychometric issues for staff, test committees, clients, and policy boards.
  • Initiate discussions of the potential effects of changes in programs with appropriate staff; work to develop and implement long-range goals and plans for programs.
  • Make professional contributions through publications, research reports, seminars, and participation in professional organizations.
  • Contribute to research, development, and evaluation of new testing modes, item types, psychometric methods, and technology.

REQUIREMENTS

·         A Ph.D. in Psychometrics, Statistics, Educational Measurement, Quantitative Psychology or a closely related field is required. Masters with significant industry experience will be considered.

·         Minimum of two years of work experience as a psychometrician in educational measurement, quantitative psychology or applied statistics related to psychological and educational testing is required.

·         Experience or education must include utilizing psychometric methods, statistical procedures, and applications of classical test theory (CTT) and item response theory (IRT) in testing design and analysis.

·         Strong background in applying CTT and IRT to large-scale testing programs.

·         Proven ability to analyze and solve measurement problems in testing operations, experience in designing, conducting, summarizing and presenting psychometric studies

·         Strong data analysis skills, programming skills and scientific computing skills including manipulating, merging, and cleaning data; fluent using statistical packages including but not limited to SAS or R.

·          Work well with other staff, test committees, clients and policy holders.

·         Strong psychometric analysis skills including using WINSTEPS, FlexMIRT or similar software to conduct calibrations, equating and scaling

·         Strong oral and written communication skills.
