Requesting Attestation

Starting with test administrations in March 2019, attestation by a college of osteopathic medicine (COM) that a candidate is in good academic and professional standing and is eligible to continue as a student in the program will be required for Level 2-PE eligibility.

Candidates will see a new tab on their NBOME “My Account” page which reads; “Register or Schedule Level 2-PE Exam,” which will enable the candidate to request attestation from their COM.

Changes to your Name and Status

In order to take a COMLEX-USA examination, your name on your registration form and the valid government-issued photo ID presented at the testing center must match.

If your name has changed, download and complete a Name Change Request Form and include a copy of the supporting document noting the name change (e.g., marriage license, divorce decree, court document, naturalization document). Documentation can be scanned and emailed to clientservices@nbome.org or faxed to 773-714-0606. Name changes must be made no later than five business days before the scheduled test. If possible, submit the name-change form and documentation before registering for an examination.

Log in to your online account to update your mailing address, email address, and phone numbers, located in the in the “Student Information” section under the “My Account” tab.

If you transferred medical schools, you must contact the Dean’s office at your old and new school and request that they forward the information to clientservices@nbome.org.

Retaking COMLEX-USA Level 2-PE

Candidates can reschedule an examination on receipt of the initial score report. You can register for and schedule the retake examination through the Client Registration System (CRS) portal. You should see several opportunities for rescheduling, including specific seats reserved for students retaking the examination. Candidates should call the NBOME National Center for Clinical Skills Testing at 866.479.6828 for assistance with scheduling if they do not see an acceptable date within 6–8 weeks from the receipt of the initial report or if they have specific questions.

When rescheduling, candidates should allow adequate time to retake the examination before their school’s graduation deadline, and keep in mind the time required for remediation and rescheduling. When rescheduling an examination, candidates are advised to also check the Score Release Information (typically within 8–10 weeks) and remember that passing COMLEX-USA Levels 1, 2-CE and 2-PE is a requirement for medical school graduation.

Candidates may only take the COMLEX-USA Level 2-PE a total of 6 times, and may only take it 3 times in a 12 month period. Candidates should check the policies of their college of osteopathic medicine for its retake guidelines, which may differ from those of the NBOME.
