Scoring & Reporting

The NBOME COMLEX-USA examination program is the primary pathway to licensure for osteopathic physicians seeking to practice osteopathic medicine and surgery. The primary purpose for the COMLEX-USA examination program is for osteopathic physician licensure. Having passed these examinations indicates that the candidate’s osteopathic medical knowledge and clinical skills have met an acceptable national standard for entry-level competency. The COMLEX-USA examination sequence is accepted for physician licensure in all 50 states and some international jurisdictions.

Essential objectives of the examination series include the graduation, advancement, and promotion of osteopathic medical students. COMLEX-USA also serves as an assessment tool used by residency program directors to evaluate DO applicants for graduate medical education programs. We follow standards and best practices of the test industry when evaluating our pass/fail standards to ensure our examinations meet and maintain high assessment quality.
