COMAT examinations are primarily administered through colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) and are also administered at Prometric Test Centers throughout the country. Examinations are conveniently and securely delivered, offering adaptability and flexibility for multiple-site delivery given minimum technology requirements are met, making it easy for off-campus administration. COMAT examinations are delivered either by secure browser or iPad, and must be proctored.
COMAT clinical disciplines examinations are offered continuously throughout the year Monday through Friday, except for NBOME holidays and the first two weeks in July.

- The NBOME’s secure browser is PC and MAC compatible for single or multiple site delivery.
- As above using convenient iPad delivery via the eCOMAT app developed by internet Testing Systems (iTS).
- All examinations must be administered in a secure, proctored setting.
The eCOMAT app developed by iTS offers the option of administering the COMAT examination via iPad. Like traditional computer-based testing, iPad administration requires proctoring by COMs. A technical helpline is available through iTS in addition to the NBOME’s Client Services. The app contains a practice examination.
NBOME offers COMAT client support, including pre-examination training for proctors, a COMAT Test Administration Guide to assist in smooth test administration, and a technical helpline through the NBOME’s Client Services group. We will partner with COMs to tailor administration of the COMAT examination series to the needs of each academic institution.
Prometric Test Centers
- COMs benefit from reduced administrative and proctoring requirements.
- Students have the convenience of selecting from several hundred testing centers located throughout the US and Canada for a nominal seat fee.
- Both the NBOME and Prometric have taken steps to protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the exams.
Prometric testing may be preferred for students serving on clinical rotations in a distributed hospital network or for those located at a site without web-based test delivery capability. It may also be useful for make-up tests. This option requires advance planning to allow students sufficient time to schedule testing appointments and an additional administrative fee for the Prometric seat.
